Branch in Tajikistan

Tajikistan Branch of IFAS EC was established in order to execute the decisions of the Head States of Central Asia as of 28 February 1997 in Almaty by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan as of 7August 1997.  The location of the Branch is Dushanbe. The Executive Committee (EC)  Branch of IFAS  is a permanent working body of the IFAS EC and in its activity is governed by the Regulation on the  EC IFAS  Branch and legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan.      

Tajik Branch of the EC IFAS  was established  with the purpose of :

• Ensuring, by the Instruction of the EC IFAS, practical fulfillment of the Decision of the Council of the Head States of the Central Asia, President of the Fund and Board IFAS on the problems of the Aral Sea Basin concerning Tajikistan;

• Realization of relevant projects and programs on the Aral Sea basin;

• Execution of orders and instructions on all directions of activity by Chairman of the EC IFAS;

• Accumulation of financial and other means and ensuring their proper use;

Tajik Branch of EC IFAS by the Instruction of  the EC participates in the organization of project and program elaboration and their implementation on the Aral Sea basin problems concerning Tajikistan, arranges the inter action within the ministries, agencies, public, ecological and other organizations of the Republic of Tajikistan, ensures the representative of the Fund in the International organizations and agencies and etc.

The Chairman of Branch in coordination with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is nominated as the Chairman of the EC of the IFAS. Presently, the Director of Tajik Branch is Mazokhirov Sharif Nazirovich.

In accordance with the instruction of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and EC of the IFAS, Tajik branch of the EC IFAS including the specialists of the appropriate ministries and agencies of the Republic has developed the National Program on the  “Pure Water and Sanitation of Tajikistan” (1998-2001) and National Program on the improvement and stabilization of social-ecological situation in the basin of Aral Sea within the Republic of Tajikistan (2000-2001).

 Tajik Branch of EC IFAS takes an active part in the development and implementation of project and program priority directions on socioeconomic and ecological problems of the flow formation zone of the Aral Sea.

Within the framework of the “Program of the concrete actions on the improvement of the ecological environment in the basin of the Aral Sea (ASBP1),  the Tajik Branch of the EC made financing and co-financing to the number of priority projects of social nature. The Branch participated in the realization of the World Bank project “Emergency Assistance”. As of 12 March 1998 with the purpose of decision implementation of the IFAS Board  and the instruction of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Tajik branch  of EC IFAS also participates in the liquidation of natural calamities consequences within the country.

Within the framework of the social aid to the population within the framework of the program implementation, Tajik branch of EC IFAS delivered support to the Children House # 1 and Republican children-adolescent psychiatric health Center to procure building materials to renovate the premises of the abovementioned institutions.  For the reporting period, Tajik Branch also provided free sponsor assistance in the form of medicines towards city infectious hospital of the capital.

Tajik Branch of the EC IFAS actively participated in the preparation and  organization of  the 10th anniversary of the IFAS establishment and also Dushanbe International Forum of Pure Water.
