Nukus branch of EC IFAS was established in order to execute the decisions of the Head States of the central Asia as of 28 February 1997 in Almaty as well as the development and realization of the appropriate programs and projects on the improvement of the environment and social status of the population suffered from of the Aral Sea ecological crisis The branch is located in Nukus in Karakalpakstan, Republic of Uzbekistan. The Executive Committee (EC) Branch of IFAS is a permanent working body of the IFAS EC and in its activity is governed by the Regulation on the EC IFAS Branch and legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Uzbek Branch of EC IFAS by the Instruction of the EC participates in the organization of project and program elaboration and their implementation on the Aral Sea basin problems concerning Uzbekistan, arranges the inter action of the ministries, agencies, public, ecological and other organizations of the Republic of Tajikistan, ensures the representative of the Fund in the International organizations and agencies and etc. The Chairman of Branch in coordination with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is nominated as the Chairman of the EC of the IFAS. Presently, the Director of Uzbek Branch is Ashirbekov Ubunyaz Ashirbekovich. Uzbek Branch of EC IFAS takes an active part in the development and implementation of project and program priority directions on socioeconomic and ecological situation in the zone of the Aral Sea. So, Nukus branch workers participated in the implementation of the World Bank project “Urgent Aid toward the Population” the aim of which is providing free urgent assistance to the population of Aral zone. Since 1998 the branch has been implementing the “Program of providing social assistance to the Aral zone population within the adaptation of towards market conditions in the zone of ecological assistance crisis”. Within the framework of the “Program on concrete actions on the improvement of ecological situation in the Aral sea basin” (ASBP-1) since 2001 the branch starts carrying out the integral program on the creation of artificial flooded landscape ecological system at the territory of Amudarya delta and its neighboring areas of dried bottom of the Aral Sea with the aim of improvement of ecological situation in Aral zone. During the heat of low water in 2000-2001 Nukus branch has carried out the project “ Capital renovation of rural pump stations and improvement of water supply of rural population “ and as the result the portable water supply was improved for 56, 2 thousand people. With the aim of fixation of the dried bottom of Aral sea in 2002 the branch has started the realization of pilot projects “Creation of protective forest range on the dried bottom of the Aral sea” , “Assimilation of dried bottom of Aral Sea on the basis of local salt and dry resistant cultivations.” Nukus branch also carries out experimental and research operations on the proving of new effective methods of irrigation and watering in the different soils to introduce them into the agricultural production and in the zone of Aral sea provides consultative and financial assistance small and private enterprises for the development of entrepreneurship. Nukus branch also conduct competitions on the best published materials, essays, poems and music works on the “Problems of Aral -problems of the country” subject. All the realized projects and arrangements have the concrete character and directed on the resolution of the concrete problems occurring due to the ecological crisis of Aral sea and Aral zone. |
