The days of holding of the jubilee arrangements devoted to the 15- th. Anniversary of ICWC on April 25, 2007 in the Hotel-resort «Altyn-Kargaly», Almaty was held the Subregional workshop «Towards the 1-st. Asian-Pacific Water Summit». The workshop is organized within the framework of preparatory process for the 1-st. APWS by the Executive Committee of IFAS and GWP of Central Asia, which are the coordinators of the Central-Asian subregion.

In the seminar work have taken part the Members of ICWC, EC IFAS, JWF, APWP, GWP and other international organizations and Mass-media.

The opening remarks have also addressed Mr. Hideaki Oda - The Councilor to the President of the JWF, Mrs. Nino Chhobadze – The Chair of GWP CACENA and Mr. S. Rahimov – The Acting Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS.

The main goal of this event was the discussion of the first project of the subregional Document «Bachground to the Concept of the Central-Asian subregion in the context of Priority Themes of APWF» as well as the efforts consolidation of all structural bodies of IFAS on preparation for the 1-st Summit.

The regional coordinator of GWP CACENA Mr. Sokolov V.I. briefly informed the participants on the Asian-Pacific Water Forum and its 1-st Water Summit, which will be held on December 3-4, 2007 in Beppu city, Japan. He pointed out the importance of this new partnership network for the Asian-Pacific region, the main purpose of creation of which is to promote the sustainable water resources management in order to achieve the MDGs in the Asian - Pacific region.

It was also been mentioned, that APWF should make the important efforts for the investments stream increase, necessary potential creation and cooperation strengthening in water sector at the regional and subregional levels. For the achievement of this purpose APWF will give to the countries and organizations in the Asian-Pacific region the joint platform for discussion and formulation of the regional strategies, as well as for the distribution of the science and practice achievements for the water problems solution, including the satisfactions of needs in investments. 

The subregional Document «Background to the Concept of the Central-Asian subregion in the context of three Priority themes of APWF» was presented by the Technical Director of EC IFAS Mr. Kholmtov A.P. The Document is prepared by the national Working groups and includes the situation analysis in the Central-Asian subregion in the context of three Priority Themes of APWF and the overall strategies on the situation improvement, as well as the recommendations for the further actions.

During discussion the participants advanced the remarks and proposals on the Subregional Document. In view of the proposals and remarks the present document after completion and correction will be submitted on behalf of the Central-Asian subregion on the 1-st АPWS. 

The main aim of the implementation of the consolidated work of all structural bodies of IFAS within the APWF is the assistance to the attraction of the great attention of the international community to the crisis in the Aral Sea Basin and the problems, concerned with this crisis in the Central Asian countries.
