THE IFAS
BOARD MEETING
The IFAS Board meeting held
on April 24, 2007 in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan in the
framework of ICWC Anniversary.
Official delegations of the
states-founders of IFAS headed by the IFAS Board members
(representative members), Directors of EC IFAS Branches and
members of the Executive Committee of IFAS, representatives of
CAREC, Japan Water Forum, ĄPWF,
Global Water Partnership, GWP CACENA, UNDP, UNESCO etc have
attended this meeting.
The meeting was chaired by
the Chairman of the Water Resources Committee under the Ministry
of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Anatoly
Ryabtsev.
Minister of melioration and
water resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Masaid Homidov
has read out the Address of the President of IFAS, the President
of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon to the
participants of the IFAS Board meeting.
The Heads of the
delegations of the Central Asian states also have addressed the
salutatory speeches.
The IFAS Board has
considered the following questions:

on ICWC activity for 15
years;
-
on the Executive
Committee of IFAS activity for the period of 2006 and the
ASBP-2 realization, initiated by the Heads of the Central
Asian states;

Action plan of the IFAS
Board for the next two years;
-
On preparations to the
1st Asia-Pacific Water Summit;
-
On the «Aral-HYCOS» and
«Swiss Support to NHMS in the Aral Sea Basin» projects.
Acting Chairman of the
Executive Committee of IFAS Mr. Sulton Rahimov has provided
detail information on each of abovementioned questions.
Participants of the meeting made some comments and proposals
that were taken into account at the take decision. Aral-HYCOS
project was widely discussed during the meeting. IFAS Board
members by their decision have approved the «Aral-HYCOS» project
and noted the necessity of its implementation for the
strengthening capacity of NHMS of the region and the improvement
of forecasting and assessment services through an enhanced
hydrological information system, which is a core requirement for
water resources management in the basin. It further entrusted
the Executive Committee of IFAS to seek donor support for the
project implementation. |
