The project is executed by FAO/SEC in close collaboration with the Executive Committee of the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS) and funded under the FAO-Turkey partnership Programme.

The main purpose of the expedition was to evaluate the success of a project to raise, stabilize, and improve the ecology of the Small Aral Sea.

]]> Asele Mon, 16 Jan 2012 12:16:08 +0600 The tenth meeting of the Legal Board of the UNECE Water Convention will take place on 31 January-1 February 2012 in Geneva http://www.ec-ifas.org/news/188-the-tenth-meeting-of-the-legal-board-of-the-unece-water-convention-will-take-place-on-31-january-1-february-2012-in-geneva.html http://www.ec-ifas.org/news/188-the-tenth-meeting-of-the-legal-board-of-the-unece-water-convention-will-take-place-on-31-january-1-february-2012-in-geneva.html The Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, at its fifth session (Geneva, 10–12 November 2009), agreed on the need to establish a mechanism under the Convention through which problems related to implementation and possible differences in the Convention’s interpretation could be addressed.

 

For this purpose, the Meeting of the Parties at its fifth session entrusted the Legal Board to prepare a proposal with regard to the objectives, structure, tasks, functions, policies and procedures of institutional and procedural mechanisms to facilitate and support implementation and compliance for possible adoption at the Sixth Meeting of the Parties in 2012.

 

The Legal Board will discuss the document prepared by Chairman at its tenth meeting and further elaborate the text by taking decisions on the drafting language.

EC IFAS is a Contribution Partner to the 6th World Water Forum, organized by the French Government, the World Water Council, and the City of Marseille, it will be the «Forum of Solutions».

 

EC IFAS contributed to the preparation process to the Forum by organizing the working seminar in September 2011.
